The Academy Fellowship is an award given out by BAFTA since 1971 "in recognition of outstanding achievement in the art forms of the moving image", and is regarded the most prestigious of the BAFTA awards given to individuals. The Fellowship recipients have mainly been famous film directors, such as Alfred Hitchcock, David Lean, Steven Spielberg, Andrzej Wajda, Ingmar Bergman and Frederico Fellini, but a number of Fellowships have also been awarded to renowned actors, such as Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Elizabeth Taylor and Judi Dench. Fellowships have also been awarded film and television producers, cinematographers, film editors and screenwriters.
